PERSONAL STATEMENT

“Whoever kills a person it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind.”(Quran 5:32) My choice of medicine subjects was influenced by my fascination to form connections between science and my religious beliefs. With further research I found that Medicine combines my curiosity for science with the care and compassion. My interest in how the world works, and more importantly how our bodies work, led me to continue studying Biology, Chemistry and Physics at intermediate. My interest in medicine was growing up with me ever since I was a small child. The human body is a remarkable machine with many diverse systems producing an organism that could never be artificially reproduced. My love of science is just one of my reasons for choosing medicine. My fascination of how the human body functions has led me to appreciate the complexity of physiological anatomy and the tremendous skill required by a doctor. This is one of my lead reasons for choosing to commit to a career in medicine. Good time management skills, self-motivation and ability to cope under pressure are essential for success in these subjects. To be able to help people at their weakest and most vulnerable point in life is something I would love to spend my life doing. Having spoken to many hospital practitioners, I know that pursuing this career involves sacrificing a significant amount of social time and handling a huge amount of pressure. However I believe that the satisfaction of correctly diagnosing a patient and successfully treating them will be extremely rewarding. Additionally I have always questioned how such complex, almost surreal systems exist within the human anatomy. The idea of a career that would challenge my mental ability and decision making skills has always implied that Medicine is the right choice for me.

So after doing my intermediate from a well known inter college of Balochistan  Province ( Tameer-i-nau Public College , Quetta ). I Started preparing for Entrance test of one and the only Medical college of my provience, Bolan Medical College ,Quetta Balochistan. Here on thing was pinching me, that of my weak financial status and belonging to the most under developed province Balochistan. These two factors were very weak infrount of my aim.I have been selected for Higher Education Commission Scholarship.

Now as I entered into medican, which was my burning desire for many years,I started thinking about extracurricular activities which will help me in my future. As there is a great deal of human interaction between doctors and patients, good communication skills are essential. In this mean I joined almost all college socities like “Voice of BMC”.My strong communication skills have been continually demonstrated through presentations in front of up to 200 people, as well as strong leadership qualities in order to deliver time-critical projects.

My decision to study medicine has been strengthened by joining “HEALER SOCIETY”. In healer society we have arrang blood for poor patients. In this way we interact with poor patients and it has  helped me to significantly develop some important skills particularly useful within the medical profession such as preparing people for blood donation, communicating with different people and team work.

Away from physical activities, keeping the mind exercised is important. I regularly play with a team, winning several team tournaments. Playing chess has improved my power of concentration, allowing me to stay focused on a task over a sustained period. This is essential in a medical degree as mistakes cannot be made when diagnosing or treating patients. My involvement in a voluntary programme this summer has reinforced my decision to study a degree in medicine.

I am pleased to have achieved a great balance between my studies and social, extracurricular life. I have regularly performed in school concerts, drama productions, charity drives and the school magazine.

In order to be a successful doctor, one must be caring, dedicated and inquisitive in this field as well as a whole rounded person. I believe these are some of the qualities I possess and I am certain that by studying medicine I can accomplish my dreams and make a contribution to the society I live in.

The road to becoming a practicing doctor is a long and very demanding one but I believe I have the motivation, commitment and ability to succeed. Acquiring various skills through numerous activities, I feel that I will be more than capable of contributing both academically and physically to the medicine course at to a higher education institute. Where humanity, patience and integrity are all vital to successful patient care, so I believe is a sense of humor (where appropriate).

I am aware of the demands of a Medical career but my ability to balance a social and educational lifestyle should enable me to meet the required standards. The way a patient is addressed or cared for, has a lasting impact not only on the patient and their family, but also on the career. Through the qualities I have developed from an academic and voluntary aspect, along with the opportunity to study Medicine, I think I would be capable of creating
such an impact in people's lives.      (Nasrullah Khan Achakzai)
