SMART Goals

If you ask most people what is their one major objective in life, they would probably give you a vague answer, such as, "I want to be successful, be happy, make a good living," and that is it. They are all wishes and none of them are clear goals. Goals must be SMART:
1. S--specific. For example, "I want to lose weight." This is wishful thinking. It becomes a goal when I pin myself down to "I will lose 10 pounds in 90 days."
2. M--must be measurable. If we cannot measure it, we cannot accomplish it. Measurement is a way of monitoring our progress.
3. A--must be achievable. Achievable means that it should be out of reach enough to be challenging but it should not be out of sight, otherwise it becomes disheartening.
4. R--realistic. A person who wants to lose 50 pounds in~30 days is being unrealistic.
5. T--time-bound. There should be a starting date and a finishing date

MEANINGLESS GOALS

A farmer had a dog who used to sit by the roadside waiting for vehicles to come around. As soon as one came he would run down the road, barking and trying to overtake it. One day a neighbor asked the farmer "Do you think your dog is ever going to catch a car?" The farmer replied, "That is not what bothers me. What bothers me is what he would do if he ever caught one." Many people in life behave like that dog who is pursuing meaningless goals.

Life is hard by the yard,
but by the inch,
it's a cinch.

A CREED FOR THOSE WHO HAVE SUFFERED

A CREED FOR THOSE WHO HAVE SUFFERED

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve. I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey . . .

I asked for health, that I might do greater things.

I was given infirmity, that I might do better things ...

I asked for riches, that I might be happy.

I was given poverty, that I might be wise ...

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men.

I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God .. .

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life. I was given life, that I might enjoy all things ...

I got nothing I asked for--but everything I had hoped for.

Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.

I, among all men, am most richly blessed!

THE MIDAS TOUCH

We all know the story of the greedy king named Midas. He had a lot of gold and the more he had the more he wanted. He stored all the gold in his vaults and used to spend time every day counting it.
One day while he was counting a stranger came from nowhere and said he would grant him a wish. The king was delighted and said, "I would like everything I touch to turn to gold." The stranger asked the king, Are you sure?" The king replied, "Yes." So the stranger said, "Starting tomorrow morning with the sun rays you will get the golden touch." The king thought he must be dreaming, this couldn't be true. But the next day when he woke up, he touched the bed, his clothes, and everything turned to gold. He looked out of the window and saw his daughter playing in the garden. He decided to give her a surprise and thought she would be happy. But before he went to the garden he decided to read a book. The moment he touched it, it turned into gold and he couldn't read it. Then he sat to have breakfast and the moment he touched the fruit and the glass of water, they turned to gold. He was getting hungry and he said to himself, "I can't eat and drink gold." Just about that time his daughter came running and he hugged her and she turned into a gold statue. There were no more smiles left.

The king bowed his head and started crying. The stranger who gave the wish came again and asked the king if he was happy with his golden touch. The king said he was the most miserable man. The stranger asked, "What would you rather have, your food and loving daughter or lumps of gold and her golden statue?" The king cried and asked for forgiveness. He said, "I will give up all my gold. Please give me my daughter back because without her I have lost everything wo rth having." The stranger said to the king, "You have become wiser than before" and he reversed the spell. He got his daughter back in his arms and the king learned a lesson that he never forget for the rest of his life.

What is the moral of the story?
1. Distorted values lead to tragedy.
2. Sometimes getting what you want may be a bigger tragedy than not getting what you want.
3. Unlike the game of soccer where players can be substituted, the game of life allows no substitutions or replays. We may not get a second chance to reverse our tragedies, as the king did.

HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED?

About a hundred years ago, a man looked at the morning newspaper and to his surprise and horror, read his name in the obituary column. The news papers had reported the death of the wrong person by mistake. His first response was shock. Am I here or there? When he regained his composure, his second thought was to find out what people had said about him. The obituary read, "Dynamite King Dies." And also "He was the merchant of death." This man was the inventor of dynamite and when he read the words "merchant of death," he asked himself a question, "Is this how I am going to be remembered?" He got in touch with his feelings and decided that this was not the way he wanted to be remembered. From that day on, he started working toward peace. His name was Alfred Nobel and he is remembered today by the great Nobel Prize.
Just as Alfred Nobel got in touch with his feelings and redefined his values, we should step back and do the same.
What is your legacy?
How would you like to be remembered?
Will you be spoken well of?
Will you be remembered with love and respect?
Will you be missed?

Introduction to BMC,Quetta.

Bolan Medical College as seat of Medical Education in the Province of Balochistan has a checkered history.

After partition the country was deficient in trained manpower, especially in the medical field. To fill the gap in a short period of time the Government of Pakistan decided to start Condensed Medical Courses and for that a series of Medical Schools were established in the country. Thus in 1952 Amin-u-Din Medical School was started in Balochistan. It worked for seven years and was closed as a matter of policy when it was felt that this category of Doctors were no more required and instead it was decided that more Medical Colleges to be opened to train fully qualified Doctors in the country, at the level of MBBS and beyond.

Earlier on the students from Balochistan had to seek admission in the other colleges of the country and were facing great difficulty. After Balochistan got the status of a separate Province in 1970 the people of Balochistan started demanding a Medical College of their own. In March 1971 it was agreed in principle that a Medical College will be opened in Balochistan at Quetta.

In 1972, the Government of Pakistan acceding to the demand of the people of the Province formally decided to set-up a Medical College at Quetta and agreed to run it as a Federally Funded Project.

Pending the construction of a new full-fledged Hospital and College Building, the clinical classes were started in Sandeman Provincial Hospital Quetta and the building of a para- Medical School was acquired for the College. The main building of College and Hospital (BMCH) have been completed, and are fully functional. The laboratories of the basic Departments have been equipped with most modern equipments.

Four Hostels two for Boys and two for Girls and Residence of Teaching and Ministerial staff, in reasonable number have been completed. At the moment there is accommodation for almost all the students.

Twenty seven batches of students numbering 3200 (approximately) have already qualified from here and the 28th batch is due to pass out.

Later on BDS classes were started in 1985 and presently a fully functional Dental section of the College is working and untill now 150 BDS Doctors have qualified from this institution.

For up-dating the knowledge of the Teachers and furtherance of Medical Science a Research Cell, as a branch of Pakistan Medical Research Council, is functioning since 1979 with the principal as its Honorary Director.

To make the medical education more meaningful a Programme of community oriented Medical Education has been introduced in the college from last year. Plans are under way to introduce Computer literacy classes, open a medical education Department, establish a Resource Centre, a skills laboratory and upgrading the library to meet the new challenges of the time. The board of studies of B.M.C. has recently recommended to start Diploma Courses in different specialties in Basic Medical Sciences.

Fashion Show

A fashion show is an event put on by a fashion designer to showcase his or her upcoming line of clothing during Fashion Week. Fashion shows debut every season, particularly the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter seasons. This is where the latest fashion trends are made. The two most influential fashion weeks are Paris Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week, which are both semiannual events.
In a typical fashion show, models walk the catwalk dressed in the clothing created by the designer. Occasionally, fashion shows take the form of installations, where the models are static, standing or sitting in a constructed environment. The order in which each model walks out wearing a specific outfit is usually planned in accordance to the statement that the designer wants to make about his or her collection. It is then up to the audience to not only try to understand what the designer is trying to say by the way the collection is being presented, but to also visually deconstruct each outfit and try to appreciate the detail and craftsmanship of every single piece. A wide range of contemporary designers tend to produce their shows as theatrical productions with elaborate sets and added elements such as live music or a variety of technological components like holograms, for example.

A Bit Histery About Fashion Show.

Because "the topic of fashion shows remains to find its historian", the earliest history of fashion shows remains obscure.
In the 1800s, "fashion parades" periodically took place in Paris couture salons.
American retailers imported the concept of the fashion show in the early 1900s. The first American fashion show likely took place in 1903 in the New York City store Ehrlich Brothers. By 1910, large department stores such as Wanamaker's in New York City and Philadelphia were also staging fashion shows.[2] These events showed couture gowns from Paris or the store's copies of them; they aimed to demonstrate the owners' good taste and capture the attention of female shoppers.
By the 1920s, retailers across the United States held fashion shows. Often, these shows were theatrical, presented with narratives, and organized around a theme (e.g. Parisian, Chinese, or Russian). These shows enjoyed huge popularity through mid-century, sometimes attracting thousands of customers and gawkers

PERSONAL STATEMENT

“Whoever kills a person it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind.”(Quran 5:32) My choice of medicine subjects was influenced by my fascination to form connections between science and my religious beliefs. With further research I found that Medicine combines my curiosity for science with the care and compassion. My interest in how the world works, and more importantly how our bodies work, led me to continue studying Biology, Chemistry and Physics at intermediate. My interest in medicine was growing up with me ever since I was a small child. The human body is a remarkable machine with many diverse systems producing an organism that could never be artificially reproduced. My love of science is just one of my reasons for choosing medicine. My fascination of how the human body functions has led me to appreciate the complexity of physiological anatomy and the tremendous skill required by a doctor. This is one of my lead reasons for choosing to commit to a career in medicine. Good time management skills, self-motivation and ability to cope under pressure are essential for success in these subjects. To be able to help people at their weakest and most vulnerable point in life is something I would love to spend my life doing. Having spoken to many hospital practitioners, I know that pursuing this career involves sacrificing a significant amount of social time and handling a huge amount of pressure. However I believe that the satisfaction of correctly diagnosing a patient and successfully treating them will be extremely rewarding. Additionally I have always questioned how such complex, almost surreal systems exist within the human anatomy. The idea of a career that would challenge my mental ability and decision making skills has always implied that Medicine is the right choice for me.

So after doing my intermediate from a well known inter college of Balochistan  Province ( Tameer-i-nau Public College , Quetta ). I Started preparing for Entrance test of one and the only Medical college of my provience, Bolan Medical College ,Quetta Balochistan. Here on thing was pinching me, that of my weak financial status and belonging to the most under developed province Balochistan. These two factors were very weak infrount of my aim.I have been selected for Higher Education Commission Scholarship.

Now as I entered into medican, which was my burning desire for many years,I started thinking about extracurricular activities which will help me in my future. As there is a great deal of human interaction between doctors and patients, good communication skills are essential. In this mean I joined almost all college socities like “Voice of BMC”.My strong communication skills have been continually demonstrated through presentations in front of up to 200 people, as well as strong leadership qualities in order to deliver time-critical projects.

My decision to study medicine has been strengthened by joining “HEALER SOCIETY”. In healer society we have arrang blood for poor patients. In this way we interact with poor patients and it has  helped me to significantly develop some important skills particularly useful within the medical profession such as preparing people for blood donation, communicating with different people and team work.

Away from physical activities, keeping the mind exercised is important. I regularly play with a team, winning several team tournaments. Playing chess has improved my power of concentration, allowing me to stay focused on a task over a sustained period. This is essential in a medical degree as mistakes cannot be made when diagnosing or treating patients. My involvement in a voluntary programme this summer has reinforced my decision to study a degree in medicine.

I am pleased to have achieved a great balance between my studies and social, extracurricular life. I have regularly performed in school concerts, drama productions, charity drives and the school magazine.

In order to be a successful doctor, one must be caring, dedicated and inquisitive in this field as well as a whole rounded person. I believe these are some of the qualities I possess and I am certain that by studying medicine I can accomplish my dreams and make a contribution to the society I live in.

The road to becoming a practicing doctor is a long and very demanding one but I believe I have the motivation, commitment and ability to succeed. Acquiring various skills through numerous activities, I feel that I will be more than capable of contributing both academically and physically to the medicine course at to a higher education institute. Where humanity, patience and integrity are all vital to successful patient care, so I believe is a sense of humor (where appropriate).

I am aware of the demands of a Medical career but my ability to balance a social and educational lifestyle should enable me to meet the required standards. The way a patient is addressed or cared for, has a lasting impact not only on the patient and their family, but also on the career. Through the qualities I have developed from an academic and voluntary aspect, along with the opportunity to study Medicine, I think I would be capable of creating
such an impact in people's lives.      (Nasrullah Khan Achakzai)
